Wait! This is a good infection! There are continuing signs that the world of risk management is assimilating itself more deeply into the broader business community and society as a whole.  A report by the Risk & Insurance Management Society Inc. called, “Exploring the Risk Committee Advantage,” includes observations from four senior risk professionals on how risk committees function and their value to their organizations.

The report talks about the different varieties of risk committees that are becoming more prevalent and the roles of risk professionals in each of the enterprises. What I find most heartening is that these types of functions are providing their enterprises “with a holistic view and understanding of the organization’s operations.”

Add to this more discussion of risks that society as a whole faces, be it from weather, terrorism, or other hazards at the local, state and national level, and the idea of promoting a risk-aware society that is prepared to make intelligent decisions regarding risk is spreading – how infectious!
